A bit about me in ABT magazine

My magazine arrived in the post today and I was nervous to see what I would find inside, having given a few tips about Artists going into business. It meant a lot to me when I saw that I had been included in the article alongside Anita Klein, one of my favourite artists. I would love to own one of her paintings! Jack Vettriano on the cover too, so in good company!!

Dale Chihuly Exhibition, London

I went up to London on Thursday, to collect my painting from the Mall, and as it was such a beautiful day I spent a few hours wandering the streets around Mayfair, as usual with my nose in the air looking at the beautiful buildings above the shopfronts (having said that, most of the shopfronts around there are rather beautiful too!) I was inspired to paint many of them, finding a lovely pub in Bruton Street, and the Browns restaurant around the corner was amazing. However I was stopped in my tracks by the So Gorgeous Glass exhibition in a gallery in Old Bond Street, by Dale Chihuly. I love my glass bead necklace...wish I could wear some of this!!!...

Getting Ready for Ruby Pier, Brighton

I am excited to be showing at Ruby Pier in the Artist Quarter on Brighton Beach as from tomorrow.
There is such a wonderful atmosphere down there on a sunny or a blustery day! Even better with the wonderful weather we are having at the moment...summer in March!! I will be taking paintings, giclee prints and Brighton cards.

New Giclee Print of The Snowdrop

I now have Giclee Prints available of The Snowdrop pub, Lewes.
It has been a week of finishing things off, sorting frames and mounts. I haven't done much painting...but have worked on more Young Epilepsy illustrations. Sketched out my next project...looking forward to working on it properly soon!

Royal Institute 200 exhibition

Here is the view as I entered the private view for the  RI exhibition at the Mall Galleries. I spotted my painting immediately. It was strange though just how small and shy it looked hanging in there next to such strong work! can you spot it? play I spy too, Shirley Trevena in the crowd...also saw Michael Portillo and Jim Broadbent. It was a fantastic exhibition, really inspiring. Off to Battersea Affordable Art Fair Charity Private view tonight for more inspiration!

The Duchess and the Diners

Going to have a print made of this original. It was one of my favourites to research...finding out all about Harriet Mellon...the original owner of 1 Regency Square!
I am hoping to exhibit some prints and originals on Brighton Seafront near the Pier, very soon...

Gunns window - spot the difference

I have taken this to have a giclee print made today...there are some subtle diffences to the last image of the window on the blog...I wonder if you can spot them??
I also took another painting for a print...I actually had to borrow it back from the lady that now owns it! I will put an image on in a mo.

Tell an adult...illustrations

I have been working on more Young Epilepsy illustrations over the last couple of days. 16 to do, and I am finally learning the joys of Photoshop Elements and how wonderful it is to be able to clean up images and delete backgrounds.

the Florist again

well, as always happens, as soon as I declare something finished I find the unpainted bits! better now than when I am at the framers though!! I realised I had forgotten to fill in the posters on the windows, and the pavement needed a bit of variation. Done now.... I think!

The Florist is ready for business

Here it is all done. I had to lift a layer of paint from the middle blue window though. when I washed in the green frame, it all appeared one tone. So I carefully washed over it all with clean water and lifted the excess with a tissue. then repainted the green frame. thats better!

The Florist

Just about finished now...I really enjoyed all my flowers, and found Winsor & Newtons Opera Rose particularly useful. It was a little tube of paint that had been missing for a while and turned up when I needed it most!!

Brighton Florist gets the greens

That's better...put the green on in the right place and a lively bit of red. These stages are quite quick and its like switching on lights as the different areas start to pop out! Sky next...then it will all go slow as I start to put in all the finer details.

Brighton Florist starts to bloom

Yesterday I was happy to get my paints out again as they had been dormant for several days...first the palest creamy washes in varietys of yellows and pinks. Then in the excitement of adding some of my favourite greeny mix I washed it in the wrong place...see underneath the green circles on the building. This green stains quite badly, but I managed to wash most of it away with a gentle rubbing with my brush and clean water. Watercolour can be forgiving...sometimes!
