Let's do lunch again..in Bath

I have two paintings currently in an exhibition in the centre of Bath, immediately opposite the end of the Pump Room, in Stall Street. This is one of them... and the other is of the Coeur de Lion Pub.
This exhibition is the preview for this year's Bath prize...I have three new paintings ready for that.
Hopefully I should have work exhibited there all through the summer until the closing of the exhibition in October (I think) !

Winter Cheer, Lewes

Here is a preview of the image I hope can be used for the Charity Christmas Card later this year - just finished today.
Hopefully next time you see it, it will be in the Charity Card Shop! Back to sunnier skies for me now...

The snow falls in Lewes and Harveys pops

I used blue mask for a light snow shower...and washed in the sky. I had waited for the weather to cool a bit but I still found it drying a bit too quick and I got a few edges that I didnt want. Hopefully they will disappear with a few extra snowflakes and more colour in the foreground. I love the way Harveys pops when I put the red paint on.
can't wait to get back to it now and paint my carol singers!

Christmas in Lewes all drawn out

well...the drawing is done for the christmas card, but it it just too hot to start painting. I have a big sky to paint and I want to use lots of colours to give an early evening feel...on top of snowflakes...so I need my washes to stay wet or I will get lots of lines.
Looks like this will have to wait until the day cools down a bit...maybe later after I have walked my dog!

Milsom Street Memories (with ghostsign)

Here is the painting that won me a prize in The Bath Prize 2010. I couldn't resist this shop with that ghost sign on it! Milsom Street was full of lovely places to paint though, I could paint Bath for years!!

closer look at Fudge Factory

here is a closer look at my little people. when I see them on the computer I usually see a problem...this time the lady in the shop looks like she has a very low ear! It is meant to be a whisp of hair...I will have to add a bit more!

Finished the Fudge Factory

A bright shop full of gorgeous sweet things! (including Mr Darcy)
All finished...needs a title now...
Next painting...christmas is coming. Finally the sun has arrived outside and I am having to think about snow!

Old Gold and shades of grey

First washes on...having fun getting that old wall really dark.
Now for some sunshine...

Fudge Factory, Bath, ready for painting

The Fudge Factory is all drawn out and ready for paint. I couldn't resist sticking this little bit of red paint on first!! funnily enough that little bit of lettering is what attracted me to the area in the first place!!

My Picture in Artist & Illustrators magazine Portfolio

woo! I was excited to see my painting of Sea Haze featured in the Portfolio Pages of Artist and Illustrators Magazine for August 2012!! (includes Barney and I !!) The original is currently in Ruby Pier Gallery, Brighton.

Spot the Roman

here is a closer look at my Bath visitors...spot the Roman?

Pump Room Finished Maybe

I think it is ... but it always seems that as soon as I post a finished painting on here, I notice something missing. This was photographed under electric light so the colours look a bit dull. Time to leave it for a few days and move on to my other Bath pic.

Another Bath started...

I am hoping to get two Bath images painted this week, in time to enter in to The Bath Prize. Allowing time for framing and the school holidays! So whilst sitting in The Chalk Gallery today, I was able to get this farm with my second Bath images. The Fudge Factory is sugary and bright, but has some old signage on the wall behind which caught my eye. You can just read the letters USE C (I reckon it was Warehouse Clearance..sure I saw a photo somewhere, but cant find it on line now.) Any way these letters look quite modern compared to some in Bath. Love those Ghost Signs!

first few stages of washes on the Pump House

from the first pale washes of fifty shades of grey...then the antique golds...and then some shadows to contrast, it is starting to look like a sunny scene in Bath.

Plans for two Bath paintings

Here are the reference photos and plans for a couple of new Bath paintings. I have roughed them out in my sketch book. The Fudge Factory will have to be a square painting, and I might crop the Pump House a bit more to the left, as that white wall looks a bit overpowering at the moment.
Barney is in them both!

Latest House Portrait finished
