A long way to go on Pulteney Bridge

back in Bath again!...Started this painting earlier this year...and finally got it out again. Love the colours of the shops..but a long way to go on a long painting!

Newick Park from a sketch

Here is a painting worked up from a sketch a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed my time sitting under the tree at the front of the hotel sketching, I still remember all the lovely smells of lunch cooking. MUST get out and sketch some more...all your senses are working when you sketch...not just your sight! will look out the actual sketch later, I know its in one of my folders...somewhere!!

Buttercup Brunch

Finished!
Now time to move on to a couple of paintings that are half done. watch this space!

Buttercup Brunch nearly there

The shadows are going on and people are looking grounded! Now for the decisions on the colours of the clothes...seems to always take the longest! That chap with his back to us...I want the pattern of the chair to show, but I don't want him to stand out too much. Same with the waitress...so I chose colours that match the background. If I had put her in a pink dress for example she would have become the focal point of the painting...not the cafe.

The Regency Restaurant, Brighton

Apparently this restaurant is the most famous fish and chip restaurant in China! A famous chinese celebrity ate there recently and has been blogging about it...causing a rush of chinese customers!
A print of my painting "The Duchess and the Diners" is on its way to the restaurant now too.

Sun shines on the Buttercup Brunch

I love seeing the painting start to come alive and imagine the buzz, as gradually brighter and brighter colours are added. there are still some areas in the background to draw, chair legs and inside the cafe, but I can work from front to back here. It all starts to get a bit confusing before I can separate some areas with paint!

plenty of wet in wet at the Buttercup

Having fun with my watercolours...I can never put on just a single colour, I think I am addicted to mixing and dropping in colours!
My palette is proof I think!! I have squeezed the colours out of the tubes, and then work from them in my palette. theres no waste ever, and I prefer working with the dry paint rather than direct from the tube so I dont pick up too much pigment.
Time to change the water I think!!

Buttercup Brunch

I changed the position of my waitress to give her a bit more movement. Not much to ink in now, just a few more flowers and people in the background...then it's time for the paint.

The Buttercup grows

A day to draw today! I am enjoying drawing all the lovely pot plants around the Buttercup Cafe, Lewes

The Buttercup Cafe has been looking fabulous especially when the sun makes an appearance. Here is a rough sketch, scaled up ready to draw out bigger on my thick watercolour paper.

Edvard Munch in Brighton

this little stone made me smile...a tribute to The Scream on Brighton Beach!
March was a busy month, lots of exciting things happening...with the RI, the Ruby Pier and the ABT magazine. April so far a bit slow, but it has been the Easter holidays, and I never get much painting done during school holidays.
Good news in the last week though with three sales at Chalk. The Market Tower has sold, and a print of Lewes Castle is now winging its way to a kitchen in California. thats a nice thought!
I am working on a new painting of Lewes, and have just finished a small one of Lewes Castle and the Paddock. watch this space!
