Brighton Flea Market - in the pink!

I couldn't wait to get that pink on to the paper!
The green van makes a vibrant contrast, too.  Shadows will be going on next, which will help shape the buildings and sit everything down on the ground...

Brighton Flea Market...why use one colour...?

Both the buildings either side of the Flea market are very pale creamy paint, which has weathered. Watercolour is ideal for representing this; a pale watery wash covering the area can then be livened up with drops of pink, green and purple, to give it the aged look.
The two buildings now look quite dark, but by the time I have the other colours on, they will settle back and look pale again.

Brighton Flea Market all drawn out and ready for PINK!!

I  have been enjoying drawing in the the little details in the Flea Market today. I am really ready to get on with painting the lovely bright colours...but it will have to wait, as I have run out of time today. boo!!
Still got to fill in more antiques in the windows..but they will fill up in good time, when I am waiting for washes of paint to dry!

Brighton Flea Market sketch

Just roughed out my next painting. The flea market is just one road up from the sea at Brighton, so I want to get the feeling of the sparkling sky and the breezy sea air...plenty of seagulls!!
I love the colours! Just not entirely sure how to colour the windows at the moment.
You can see traces of a former life as possibly a coach house, the kerb is dropped to the road at the front, and the central pink pillar is different to the other three. maybe there was an arched entrance originally.
I wonder if there are any old photos out there...?

The Market Year - Lewes Food Market

I went to the farmshop for some sausages and braising steak today...and spotted this little brochure! It is great to see my picture being used to promote the Lewes Friday Market and the producers there.

Wickle Painting Finished

All done! What a lovely shop...

Click on the picture and have a closer look...
I finished my Wickle this afternoon. Now it is off to the framer, so it will be ready for the next hang at Chalk Gallery. I really enjoyed painting this one. There are reminders of its former life as a furniture emporium, and Clothkits too.

A Wickle bit of painting, Lewes

The first washes of paint on Wickle

and then the lights come on...
I have finally got back to painting after an Easter break. Wickle is such a pretty building.
I am trying to get the effect of a rainbow of bright colours in the window to show the cheerful, fun, child-friendly place that it is!
