Picasso and the pub sketch

I went to Chiddingly today, to have a tour of Farley Farm, home of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose. Interesting to hear about all their visitors, especially Picasso....
He tried to pay for a beer with a sketch at the local pub...they didnt accept it!! Now I have a plan for a painting...so went and had a quick sketch of the pub. worked out the brick pattern after a while!
It was a lovely sunny day and a pretty spot.
Watch this space, I hope to get on and paint this before June : )

An Illustration for a Literary magazine

two versions of the illustration, one with colour just on the characters, before blocking in the remaining colours. Not sure which I prefer.
the illustration features William Shakespeare and Ted Hughes in conversation in the City of London.
Or could be called, Bill and Ted go to the pub : )

sketching for a doggy book...

I can't share too much yet, early days and all, but here is a little peep at plans for some book illustrations. Exciting times...I need to spend another week or so on these sketches and plans before I start my next painting.
These are just roughed (wuffed) out on photocopy paper, very thin, you can see how it has crinkled and given a starburst effect on the scan. I actually rather like that!!

more Battle of Lewes soldiers are at Plumpton

I have been asked to submit a drawing for a commemorative First Day Cover envelope for Plumpton celebrations of the Battle of Lewes anniversary. Great to be part of history...albeit from a very safe distance!!
