Regency Restauarant close up look

Here is a closer view of the Regency Restaurant. My actual figures are pretty tiny, only a couple of centimeters high.

A corner of Regency Square Brighton. With memories of a Grand Regency Past.

blue skies and red trimmings in Brighton

Some of the windows are done, but I decided to put the red on as it is so dominant, and that will guide me towards which windows will be lit with oranges and yellows.
Not much green in this picture, but there isn't much green at the seaside! I will try to add some in the clothes of the people.

mellow yellow on Regency Square

today I washed on my first lot of colour. The pale regency yellows and  some purpley blues. It always looks a bit dull at this stage, needs the sky. I have been painting in my conservatory and it is pretty warm in there, so I wont paint the sky until it is cool...or the washes will dry too quickly and it will go all streaky!
I am also looking forward to painting all the colour in the windows...

Lots of windows slowly going in...looking forward to adding some characters on the street soon, only birds in the picture at the moment.

Regency Restaurant and Beach Hotel, Brighton

This one is a challenge!
with more than 50 windows (glad I don't have to clean them) which are fairly small, there will be a lot of panes of glass. I am penning in from the top, havent quite decided what cars or passers by to add yet. There was a turquoise rolls royce with gold trim parked outside in Regency Square when I was there..I think that may have to go in!!
watch this space...

Buttercup Cafe - Giclee Print

Today I also picked up some new giclee prints of Buttercup Brunch. Tomorrow I will take them over to my framer to have some mounts cut, so I should have some in Chalk Gallery by the next new hang.

The Spotted Dog gets some people...

A couple of projects on the go today! My son and I have worked on the start of the Union Jack painting - more to go on top of that soon - we are going to try to paint a british bulldog. Nice to get a bit of afternoon sun to dry the Acrylic Paint so quickly.
I also had a bit of time to draw some more life in to The Spotted Dog. I need to work on the writing in the windows, and the people inside, behind the writing - thinking in layers!
It is ready to start painting though...I can come back to the window later. Can't wait to get a bit of lovely colour on it!

A 50th Birthday card

A bit of fun on Sunday, drawing a card for a friend. I enjoyed the chickens... Didnt have an envelope to fit so I made one with some pretty craft paper I have tucked away.

Spotted Dog

From rough sketch to scaled up drawing and then to inking! Bit tentative to start off with but now I am enjoying myself. Sadly got to pack it away now...got to eat!  I wonder if the pub has any ghosts...it is one of the oldest in Brighton...

Parsnips!

A change from the norm...night before last I painted a quick piccie of these parsnips and also some cherries, for the new Plumpton Jubilee Cookbook. It was fun to paint something different...and so quick!
The Cookbook will be produced in June...hopefully, with contributions from several Plumpton artists.

The Other Side of Pulteney Bridge

here is a section of my long painting that I have been working on over the last week, one that I actually began just after christmas. It ended up having around 30 people in it, plus tailors dummies...so there were a lot of little clothes to think about. Each person is around 3.5cm high...so now I think I need to go bigger!!
Talking of bigger, I drew a little mermaid for Brighton Family Fringe Hurly Burly..which they have scaled up and cut out about 8 ft high! she is currently standing in front of St Peters Church on the level in Brighton. I drove past yesterday and spotted her...in fact two of her. I will try to get a photo next time I am  down there. meanwhile, here is a link to their blog
